For all his success as a batsman and captain, Michael Vaughan is still the most controversial of all Englishmen. While his record of leading England to two Ashes wins has brought him much praise, there are others who question the wisdom of his selection policies. Mr. Vaughan’s critics accuse him of having a narrow and rigid view of the game. They say he fails to recognize that while one man might have the ability to dominate a bowling attack, this is not always possible in a two-day match.

Michael Vaughan has received a lot of flak for dropping his two best players, Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss, for the second Test in Delhi. England’s former captain has defended his decision, saying the two players have done enough to warrant being dropped. It is becoming increasingly obvious, however, that the dropping of Cook and Strauss was the wrong decision.

As England’s likely captain for the second Test against India, Michael Vaughan will have to decide which players he will be willing to take onto the field for the second Test against India. In the second Test against India, former England captain Michael Vaughan claims he “wouldn’t play” struggling batsmen Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence.

During the series opener at Trent Bridge, Kent’s Crawley scored 33 runs in two innings, while Essex’s Lawrence scored 25 runs.

On day one of the first Test, England were bowled out for 183, but a superb bowling performance minimised the damage, with Ollie Robinson’s five-fer and four wickets from James Anderson ensuring the deficit stayed under 100.

England produced 303 in the third innings, with captain Joe Root scoring a magnificent century to set India a target of 209 to win. India is 52-1 going into the fifth and final day, with any outcome still conceivable and the weather possibly playing a role.

At the end of day four, Vaughan told Test Match Special, ‘That was a fantastic day of Test cricket.’ ‘It hundred from Joe Root – we’ve seen him play some incredible innings before, but that was pure.

‘Those cover drives, late cutters, the way he played the spinners and Ravindra Jadeja, it was unbelievable.’

‘He would never acknowledge it, but he is the batting line-captain. up’s And that means he’s not always as cheerful as he seems. But he returned today, and it’s precisely what you’re looking for.

‘When Joe Root smiles, regardless of the game scenario, he is at his best, and it sets a wonderful example for all young players.’

When Root arrived at the crease, England was still behind by 49 runs, but the Yorkshireman quickly turned the game around with a magnificent performance that kept the hosts in the game.

In the evening session, he made his 21st Test century, and Trent Bridge exploded as he celebrated with a beating of his chest and pointing to his wife in the stadium.

‘Joe Root is the only hitter in the squad who you believe is of the top quality in Tests,’ Vaughan said of England’s Test skipper.

‘He can deliver that level of excellence under duress because he has faith in his technique.’

‘Against New Zealand, he didn’t go for the pursuit because he wasn’t confident of his technique and didn’t want to risk it.

‘However, his technique seemed to be much more certain today; he seemed to know precisely what he was doing, which allowed him to be more confident.

‘Because of their captain, England has a glimmer of hope of winning from where they were two days ago to where they are today.’

Regardless of how this match ends, England may make some changes for the Lord’s Test, which begins on Thursday.

Lawrence has averaged less than 30 in his seven Test appearances since his amazing 267 against Pakistan last summer. Crawley has struggled in Test cricket after his remarkable 267 against Pakistan last summer.

At Lord’s, Vaughan said he “wouldn’t play” Crawley or Lawrence, predicting a long-awaited return for Haseeb Hameed and a Test return for Dawid Malan.

‘Zak Crawley has the potential to be a high-class Test match player, but he lacks the experience,’ Vaughan remarked. ‘I wouldn’t play Crawley at Lord’s, but he may go to Australia.’

‘He may benefit from being away of this atmosphere for a time, trying out other forms and honing his skill.’ It has the potential to revitalize him.

‘Dom Sibley has done enough to keep his spot in the side, but you have to question how far he can go. He simply can’t go up the gears, and the bowlers have him under control.

‘Instead of Zak Crawley, I’d bring in Haseeb Hameed. Dawid Malan is another player I’d bring in, although he’s obviously not in England’s Test plans.

‘Dan Lawrence has the potential to smash some high-quality shots, but you wouldn’t mind bowling to him with that style early in his innings.’

England captain Michael Vaughan has said that he would drop two of his players for the second Test against India. Vaughan told the BBC’s Test Match Special programme that there was “zero chance” of him picking an unchanged XI and that Chris Broad and Mark Seerey could find themselves in the cold. “I will always pick the best 11,” Vaughan said. “If it means dropping a couple of players and bringing in some fresh faces, then that’s what I’ll do..
