Rodney Alcala defended herself in a murder case.
Rodney Alcala, also known as the Dating Killer, is currently on death row in a California state prison. The once charming bachelor is still alive. Today he’s 77 years old.
Alcala has been sentenced to death for the murder of five people in California and is suspected of committing other murders. He was also sentenced to 25 years in prison in New York after pleading guilty to two murders.
Alcala’s story will be aired tonight on ABC 20/20 in a new episode of Dating Killers, which will be aired at 9pm. Friday the 8th, eastern time. January 2021.

Alcala’s on death row in Corcoran, California, according to his criminal record. He was sentenced to death for the murder of five people in California. Among them was 12-year-old Robin Samso.
Samsoe was a ballet student who disappeared on her way to class while riding Schwinn’s yellow bike on the platform. She was immortalized on a plaque in 2014, 35 years after her death. His family told the Orange County Registry that his life was overshadowed by the sensitive details of his case and his killer.

Alcaala also pleaded guilty to two murders in New York City: that of TWA flight attendant Cornelia Crilly, 23, in 1978 and that of Ellen Jane Hover, 23, in 1977. Crilly was raped and strangled to death with her own stockings in her apartment. Gower disappeared and left a calendar showing that she was dating John Berger, an alias Alcala used at the time to prevent incarceration while attending New York University film school. Gower was the daughter of Herman Hoover, owner of the popular nightclub Ciro’s in Hollywood, and the goddaughter of Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. Hoover was found in 1978, and Alcala pleaded guilty to the murders in 2012, according to the biography.
Alcala appeared in the dating game in the middle of his murder and won the date.

Alcala briefly charmed bachelor Cheryl Bradshaw with her ardent answers to her questions about the dating game on the 13th. September 1978. But his charm faded quickly. Shortly after meeting Alcala in person, Bradshaw had a severe visceral reaction and decided not to go out with him.

Alcala was featured in The Dating Game as Bachelor #1, one of three eligible bachelors. Host Jim Lange shamelessly described him as a successful photographer who began his career when his father fully developed him in a darkroom at the age of 13.
