Will PlayStation leave Starfield? (Photo: Bethesda)
Friday’s article doesn’t think FIFA has much chance of dropping loot boxes, as one reader is tired of still not having a PS5.

Change the story
Okay, so… Why did Microsoft lie about the Bethesda exclusive? When they first bought it, everyone assumed that all games, except those for which there was already a publishing contract, would be exclusive. Why else would you buy them, right?
It’s been a long time since Phil Spencer said it’s all taken on a case-by-case basis and Microsoft boss Satya Nadella said we want our content to be widely available, while Todd Howard said he couldn’t imagine The Elder Scrolls 6 being exclusive.
But now the story has changed completely and it is implied that anything that can be exclusive will be. So, what happened? Did they suddenly change their minds for some reason? If this was the plan all along, why the strange misinformation campaign?
Microsoft’s specialization since the Xbox One seems to create totally unnecessary problems, and I don’t know why. They buy Bethesda, they make their games exclusive – well, that’s how the world works. But why don’t they just announce it instead of all this hallucination about whether they’re going to do it or not?
I’m sure the way they handled things will soon be forgotten, but it’s a good lesson to never believe what a game company says, and for a console company that’s twice as much as for a manufacturer. Anyway, Starfield is clearly an Xbox exclusive title, now you don’t even need this announcement.

Almost, but no cigar
Getting a PlayStation 5 has become so frustrating in recent months. Three times I had one in my cart at Argos, but when I tried to check out, he told me it was out of stock, then finally out of stock. I had one in my cart on Amazon, but when I wanted to buy it, I got an error message, and it ended up being out of stock.
Twice I waited in line for over two hours on the GAME website, but when it was my turn I was told they were out of stock. I was able to buy an Xbox X series a few weeks ago, which was great. Hopefully the chances of getting a PlayStation 5 will increase when the stock is replenished regularly. I’m not sure I care about Argos. I’ve been up three times a night because that’s when they’re usually on sale, but their website is terrible.

Soulmates
I picked up the digital edition of the PlayStation 5 a few weeks ago and was unsure which game to buy. So I decided to go for Demon’s Souls, since that seemed to be the only true next-gen game. even though I’ve never played a Souls game or any other game of this nature, I love it!
I can’t praise this game enough, it’s a real game! If you don’t concentrate, you won’t succeed, but the game never feels unfair. I played in performance mode and the game is very smooth. The graphics, sound and atmosphere are the best I’ve seen in 25 years of gaming. What a start for a new generation of games!

Retro AnimalMany remember the days of GamesMaster and GamesWorld. You may also remember Dave Perry, who now hosts a game show on YouTube. He can currently be found on YouTube under Animal TV Games and has made seven shows, the most recent a few days ago.
I actually got to know Dave Perry through his appearances at GamesMaster and GamesWorld, and his interest in retro games like the Mega Drive and PlayStation. Dave has also produced many game magazines, and I’m sure gamers will be happy to see him produce a new game show.
It’s nice to see Dave doing his own show from time to time, and as it grows, I’m sure we’ll see good content planned for the future.

Classic Twins
I’m not really used to being optimistic about Final Fantasy. I loved this franchise, even back in the days of the PlayStation 2, but after the release of Final Fantasy 13 I gradually fell into oblivion, and I haven’t really enjoyed the new game since.
But Final Fantasy 7 Remake was very good. As another reader mentioned, it probably has the best combat system of any game, handles the characters very well, and makes the story accessible but interesting.
I think things could go wrong in the second chapter, but for now I don’t think so and we’re left with two classic games called Final Fantasy 7.

Integrated support for
I wanted to clarify some details about the new updates for Overwatch. There seems to be a misconception that the PlayStation 5 is not powerful enough to handle 120 frames per second in games like Rocket League, Overwatch and Warzone. That’s not true. The reason these games got 120fps patches is because the Xbox uses backwards compatibility, mainly because it offered 120fps support in the previous generation, although none of the games used this feature.
This means that adding 120fps support is as simple as flipping a switch, whereas on the PlayStation 5 a full native version is required to take advantage of the console’s full capabilities. The developer of Rocket League talks about it in this article.
It is worth noting that there are still a few games that support 120 frames per second on the PlayStation 5, such as DiRT 5 and Devil May Cry 5 : Special Edition, Rainbow 6 Siege, Nioh 1 and 2, Destiny 2, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Fortnite, Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom, WRC 9 and I’m sure many more games will follow in the future.

GC: We’re sure you’re right, but if it was that easy, why didn’t Blizzard push the button three months ago?
No problem
Everyone says EAGate is the biggest scandal in FIFA history, but does anyone really think anything will change? FIFA Ultimate Team makes so much money that EA will never give it up unless they are proud of their dead hands. I’m sure they’ll lay off a few people to show they’re trying to contain this new problem, but I don’t see them doing anything close to a full read on loot boxes yet.
The main reason they don’t is that, at least in my experience, people don’t care. The person reading this is probably thinking that lootboxes are bad, but that’s not the case for the average gamer, especially the super fast gamer whose only game he buys is FIFA or maybe Call Of Duty. There’s no point in changing anything if most people don’t even think there’s a problem.

Mainstream Compromise
Like everyone else, I’m dying to know when Elden Ring is coming out, or when we’ll get to see official footage. In my opinion, the Soulsborne games are some of the most iconic games, but I know they only really work well in comparison to other, more mainstream games.
Will Elden Ring appeal to a Skyrim-like audience, and if so, what compromises will it have to make? Would it be easier? This is a major selling point for games, but it’s also what puts most people off. But since Demon’s Souls is a major launch game for the PlayStation 5, I’m sure it won’t be too different.
And other things? If it’s an open world, will there be a map? Will there be a pause button? The game… You know, explain what’s going on? In short, you need a wiki to play it. I’m not saying the wiki is a downside, the community element is one of the best things about games if you ask me, but I feel like it will be more accessible here.
It’s a problem as old as time: If you want more money for your game (or movie or whatever), you have to compromise to make it attractive to more people so you can get your money back. Something has to happen with the Elden Ring, and I hope it’s not something that spoils the magic of the series.

I know there are a lot of XCOM fans here, so you should check out this Kickstarter, Monsters in the Dark: The production of X-COM: Defense against UFOs. A book about the creation of the first X-COM and creator Julian Gollop’s early career in game design.

GC: It has already achieved its goal, so we assume it will.
Damn, Turtle’s game looks good. Retro perfection, as far as I can see. As another reader said, give Dotmey all the money for a rebuild. I would love to see them do a shmup one day.

This week’s
-themed inbox was inspired by reader Isha and asks the following question: What’s the game you tried to love the most, but always failed at?
It doesn’t have to be a famous or notable game, but is there a game you’ve been looking forward to, heard good things about, but couldn’t buy? Was it because the game was different than you expected, or was it a problem with a difficulty level, the plot, or some other unique element?
Did you go back a second time, or more? How many times have you tried to play a game and never finished it?
