It was the season of the Miami Heat. The defending Eastern Conference champions have had a slow start to the season due to protocols and injuries to Kovid. Then, just before the All-Star break, head coach Eric Spoelstra and his team found their groove and won 15 of the 18 games leading up to the All-Star break. The Heat are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 21-22 record. Not surprisingly, they are making a big deal out of this trade deadline, given how much is going on in the East.
They have already made a trade for Meyers Leonard of the Oklahoma Thunder and a second round pick in exchange for NBA veteran Trevor Ariza. Do they have to do more? And if so, which player should we be looking at?
. Anyone who can bolster the Heat’soffense.
The Heat are currently fifth in defense, but have slipped to 25th in offense. So it makes sense that they are looking for Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry, who can help the team in a big way, especially in the playoffs. The Heat struggle with scoring the ball (27th in the league), grabbing offensive rebounds (30th in the league) and currently have one of the slowest pace of play in the league. Adding an offensive threat like Lowry, for example, can improve their scoring ability, positional play and offensive game to make shots from the floor.
Another player the Heat reportedly have their eye on is Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. That makes sense, as the 27-year-old comes after his best season, in which he averaged 20.6 points and 6.8 assists in 64 games last season. Although Dinwiddie is recovering from a partially torn ACL, there is no doubt that he can provide extra points and contribute to the Heat’s offensive rhythm, which is in dire need of improvement right now.
Someone who can lighten Butler’s workload
There is no doubt that Jimmy Butler is a spectacular player on both sides of the ball, but he can’t do everything. A striker needs to get the help he needs, especially in basketball. As good as Tyler Herro was in his first and second years, he’s still not a very good point guard. The Heat should find the perfect final team, especially if they face the Nets, Philadelphia 76ers or Milwaukee Bucks in the playoffs.
Goron Dragic, who made an impressive comeback on the bubble before getting injured, is a good fit for Butler. But that might not be enough, especially considering the defenders he’ll have to defend in the playoffs. Bam Adebayo will work his magic on the front line, but the Heat need an extra player who can draw the game to themselves, keep Butler off the ball, and be an offensive threat.
The trade deadline issue remains the same for the Heat : Are they willing to trade players like Guerro and Duncan Robinson for the 35-year-old Lowry? If they want to make the most of Butler’s golden era, the answer is a resounding yes!
