Lucinda Copeland has recently spoken out to the media about the alleged domestic violence she suffered at the hands of Love Island star Danny Simpson. In a series of strongly worded posts on Twitter, Lucinda alleges that Danny has repeatedly used gaslighting tactics to influence others to not believe her claims.
A leading charity has called on ITV to drop Danny Dyer from the cast of Love Island 2021 following allegations of “gaslighting” and “emotional abuse” against his on-screen partner.
It’s not the first time something like this has happened. In 2002, a professional counsellor called Danny Dyer was accused of ‘gaslighting’ Kerry Katona after he asked her to cut down on her drinking. A week or so later, Danny suggested they get some counselling to sort out their problems. This is what happened according to Women’s Aid.

Women’s Aid has issued a statement in response to Danny Bibby’s treatment of Lucinda Strafford on ITV’s Love Island, accusing him of “gaslighting” and “manipulation.”
Danny and AJ Bunker were sent off the island on Wednesday evening after the ladies and guys who weren’t in danger were charged with choosing who should leave the resort.
Danny sought a relationship with Lucinda before to his departure, but she was divided between his overtures and those of fellow islander Aaron Francis.
Women’s Aid, an organization dedicated to eliminating domestic violence against women and children, said in a statement that it’became more worried’ about Danny’s behavior against Lucinda.
‘Last night, we witnessed the growth of Danny and Lucinda’s relationship and grew more concerned about his behavior towards her on screen, including what seemed to be gaslighting, possessiveness, and manipulation,’ Women’s Aid said in a statement released on Tuesday, July 20.
‘This is hardly an example of a healthy partnership. Abusers use all of these strategies.’

‘Gaslighting is a kind of psychological abuse that causes someone to doubt their sense of reality,’ according to Women’s Aid, which also said that ‘it is a form of coercive control that has been a criminal crime since 2015′.
The organization said, “We encourage the producers of Love Island to recognize coercive control when it occurs on the program, since this is not the first time it has occurred.”
‘When any kind of behavior is harmful, producers should intervene, since abuse should not be utilized for entertainment.’
Love Island stated in a statement to Metro.co.uk that it takes ‘the emotional well-being of all the Islanders very seriously.’
‘At all times, we have specialist welfare producers and psychological support on site who monitor and talk with all of the Islanders in private and off camera. All of the Islanders are therefore completely supported by the experts on site as well as their villa pals,’ according to the program.

Contestants “are always allowed to reach out and speak to someone if they feel the need,” according to the show.
‘Of course, we will continue to monitor all of our Islanders in accordance with our stringent procedures,’ they said.
Danny’s family has declined to speak.
