Applied Arts FX Studio, the special effects team working on the upcoming reboot of Resident Evil, shared an image of how committed they are to working with fans on the film. The photo shows the t-shirt that was given to the production team at the end of the work and gives us a first look at one of the countless undead that will torment our heroes.
It’s a Resident Evil package, and what a nice RE-inspired t-shirt to give away to everyone. The image clearly shows that Resident Evil is wrapped in a classic zombie drawing. Many fans believe the production team has become so specific that the image shows the famous zombie watching the very first video game Resident Evil.
Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil will act as a reboot of the already established film series, starring Milla Jovovich and loosely based on the popular video game series of the same name. The restart takes us back to the glory days of 1998 and allows us to unravel the mysteries of Spencer Manor and Raccoon City. Resident Evil also reportedly presents an original story for the first game in the series, with elements from the first and second games.
The cast was recently announced and includes Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Stories) as Claire Redfield, Robbie Amell (Duff) as Chris Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Tom Hopper (Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Impact) as Leon S. Kennedy and Neil McDonough (Sonic the Hedgehog) as William Birkin.
Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, Strangers: Prey at Night) directs the reboot of Resident Evil based on a script by Greg Russo. The horror film was produced by maestro James Wan from the series Insidious and The Conjuring.
In this film, I really wanted to go back to the first two games and create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them, while at the same time telling a human, grounded story about a small, dying American town that seems to have a storyline and is relevant to today’s audience, Roberts said recently.
Reboot is far from being the only project based on the Resident Evil object currently under development. Netflix is working on a live and animated series called Resident Evil: Endless darkness. At the moment it is not known whether all these projects will ever be linked or whether the restart will take place autonomously.
