Look back in anger, John Osborne’s 1951 play about discontent, could be the cover story for last week’s article about throwing away the stuffed animals of famous people.

When it comes to defacing statues in America, bronze Confederates are usually the object of displeasure. But there is another kind of damaged property, made of wax, that is also repeatedly attacked by vandals.

Raccoon

The Baltimore Sun reports that a wax figure of Donald Trump installed in 2017 at the Louis Tussauds Palace of Waxwork in San Antonio, Texas, was so scratched and hollowed that it had to be removed for repairs.

Newsweek came up with additional information that Trump’s hair bundles had been pulled. And social media users shared photos of Trump’s wax figure on Instagram as it was shown alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Party favourites

Not that Trump’s figure is the only tarnished wax figure of a president. The damage is done to the political party you love or dream about. Suzanne Smagala-Potts, speaking on behalf of Ripley Entertainment, which manages the exhibit in San Antonio, noted that the wax figures of George W. Bush and Barack Obama have also been affected and need repair.

Statistics show that copies of the last three presidents have been consistently vandalized at the museum in San Antonio. For example, Obama had his ears bitten off and Bush had his nose pierced.

President Biden’s number has not yet been determined.

Permanent custody

But not all infected wax figures are in the United States. In 2008, Adolf Hitler’s head was chopped off at Madame Tussauds in Berlin. San When he was relieved, two guards were appointed to protect him. For now. Ms. Smagala-Potts isn’t sure if Trump’s regular was going to provide security in San Antonio.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Trump’s statue must be protected. Attacks on his wax figure escalated during last year’s elections. Even when the statue was placed in the lobby of the San Antonio Palace pf Wax so more people could see it, the bumps and scratches didn’t stop, Smagala-Potts said.

Pictogram for positioning

There is clearly underlying anger in Trump’s ranks. One Twitter user suggested posting more of his characters so people could show their anger for a cathartic release. Another user suggested installing a real foot of Trump instead of his statue, so the wax version wouldn’t have to go to the store.

Chainsaw Memorial

But wait, you don’t have to be a political leader to have a copy of yourself destroyed. I’m thinking of a statue of Melania Trump in her hometown of Slovenia. Local police told CNN that a wooden version carved with a chainsaw by local folk artist Ales Zhupevets in 2019 had caught fire and had to be removed.

Since Melania isn’t president of anything and the statue was erected in her hometown, one wonders if the vandal just didn’t like Zupevets’ work. Eventually his image was cut away with a chainsaw, rendering his features unrecognizable.

Yahoo reports that a life-size bronze of the former first lady has taken the place of the burned version. But the bronze work is very similar to the wooden version, with the same rough and unrecognizable face.

One wonders how long it would take the Slovenian who burned Melania’s wooden statue to destroy the bronze. Keep an eye on this room.
