Former NFL linebacker James Harrison recounted his first encounter with former New England Patriots teammate quarterback Tom Brady, who currently plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, during an appearance on the Pat McAfee program on Wednesday. When Harrison initially arrived at the Patriots facilities, the first person he encountered was Brady. “He presented himself as if I had no idea who the heck he was,” Harrison recalled, adding that he does it with everyone since the quarterback is such a kind guy.

Despite this, Harrison stuck to his prejudices about Brady, stating that he thought the quarterback was simply being a nice person in front of him at the time.

Harrison said that he just sat back for a week or two before addressing Brady, “I wanted to come here and detest you.” Harrison, on the other hand, claimed his opinion of Brady has evolved, and that it’s difficult to dislike a decent person like Brady. Brady, according to the former linebacker, is courteous to everyone on his club, from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. “It’s just him,” says the narrator. That’s simply the way he is. According to Tom Westerholm of Boston.com, Harrison remarked, “He’s simply a nice guy.”

Brady and Harrison had a hilarious conversation.

Brady then quoted Harrison’s interview and made the following comment: “I mean…why would anybody ever not be kind to @jharrison9292,” followed by a weeping laughing emoji. “If you only knew the names I called you before I met you, you wouldn’t have been!” Harrison replied with a quote-tweet of his own.

Harrison joined the Patriots on a one-year contract on December 26, 2017, after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he appeared in just five games and was a healthy scratch for the most of the season.

Harrison has five tackles (3 solo) and two sacks in his first game with the Patriots. Harrison appeared in three playoff games with the Patriots, recording eight tackles (7 solo) and three quarterback hits, but New England was defeated in Super Bowl LII by the Philadelphia Eagles. Harrison announced his retirement from the NFL after 15 seasons with the Steelers and two Super Bowl titles.

After 20 years with the Patriots, Brady signed a two-year, $50 million contract with the Buccaneers last summer. Following a 31-9 victory against the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, Brady led the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl championship since 2002. Now, Brady is attempting to help the Buccaneers become the first team since the Patriots in 2003-04 to win back-to-back Super Bowl championships.

Buccaneers make roster changes

According to Luke Easterling of USA Today, the Buccaneers made a pair of similar roster changes on Wednesday, adding offensive lineman Brandon Walton to bolster their injury-depleted unit. With an injury designation, Tampa Bay released safety Raven Greene. Tampa Bay’s roster is now at the league-mandated 85 players before their second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday.
