The game was over, but Lawrence remained in the moment. You don’t have to get a promotion by staying focused on the big picture, but it helps. Lawrence ran over to the sideline and hugged his coach, Doug Marrone, and then turned to the team in the huddle and asked, “How do you feel?” This is the kind of stuff that makes Lawrence, the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, the quiet leader of the franchise.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted quarterback Nick Foles with the 94th pick in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, most fans assumed the team intended to develop Lawrence as a backup behind Blake Bortles or even trade him to a different team for more draft picks. But, with Foles firmly entrenched as the Jaguars starter, Lawrence has been far from a backup.

The Jacksonville Jaguars knew they had their work cut out for them when they chose the athletic quarterback out of Clemson in the first round of last year’s draft. To be fair, the six-foot-three, 213-pound rookie was rusty and hadn’t played in a regular season game since November, so he wasn’t exactly a polished product on the gridiron. That being said, he was able to step in and save the day for the Jaguars on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.. Read more about trevor lawrence jaguars and let us know what you think.

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – Trevor Lawrence’s first NFL play resulted in a sack that almost resulted in a fumble, but the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback seemed unfazed.

The 2021 No. 1 overall draft pick bounced back from that inauspicious start and turned in a solid but unspectacular performance in the Jaguars’ 23-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday night. Lawrence threw for 71 yards — including a 35-yarder to Marvin Jones Jr. to convert a third down — but failed to lead the first-team offense to any points in his two possessions and admittedly held onto the ball too long at times.

But he also made a few solid throws, giving his head coach reason to be optimistic about the former Clemson star, despite the fact that he still has a long way to go.

Urban Meyer stated, “I asked [passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer] how he played, and he said he performed very well.” “I felt the ball was to his left right in front of us on third down, and he actually anticipated a great out cut, scrambled, and threw a nice one to Marvin Jones.”

“He wasn’t awed in the least. We need to improve our execution. We need to do a better job of safeguarding him. We also need to get all of our wideouts healthy and perform better overall.”

According to NFL NextGen Stats, Lawrence went 6-for-9 and completed 3-of-4 of his passes into tight windows, which was the highest completion % by a Jaguars quarterback in 2020. Lawrence also led the offense to 74 yards in three possessions, compared to Gardner Minshew II, who passed for 47 yards and an interception while leading the offense to 46 yards in three possessions.

Lawrence remarked, “I feel like the first time out there, I felt comfortable, I felt poised.” “Obviously, the first play isn’t what you want for the first play, but I felt we did a nice job after that.” We had good communication from the start. They performed an excellent job providing security. At least one of those sacks was undoubtedly on me, since I had been holding the ball for much too long. That’s something I’ll try to improve. Just getting about in the pocket is something I’m constantly working on.

“Aside from that, I missed an easy one to Marvin, a fast out that I wish I had hit. Apart from that, I was in a terrific mood out there. I believe we were all looking at the same thing. There are definitely some things to tidy up, but I had a wonderful time.”

Lawrence has to focus on getting rid of the ball faster, which he accomplished at times with rapid passes to LaViska Shenault. Meyer said he’d have to watch the tape to figure out why Lawrence was reluctant to throw the ball away, but the signal-caller had to wait for receivers to clear numerous times.

That was the case on the long throw to Jones. Nobody was open at first, and it wasn’t until Jones broke deep that Lawrence was able to make the toss. Fortunately, Lawrence had good protection on that play. That wasn’t always the case, as offensive tackles Cam Robinson and Jawaan Taylor struggled against Cleveland’s second- and third-team pass-rushers. Lawrence was sacked twice in the game.

“I’d been in the pocket for a long time.” Lawrence stated of his long throw to Jones, “It ended up turning into a scramble.” “He did an excellent job of just opening up and responding.” The scrambling exercise is one we’ve been working on throughout camp. ‘All right, the play isn’t functioning as it should,’ I didn’t scramble, but everyone has the time clock of, ‘All right, the play isn’t working as it should.’ We’ve got to get something done at this point.’

“He did an excellent job of responding quickly and moving upfield. I could have steered him in a different direction. With the DB’s back turned, I didn’t want to overthrow him, and he made a fantastic grab.”

Lawrence confessed to being nervous at first, but said he soon got over it since he felt more at ease on his second drive than on his first.

“You’re a little anxious on the first play, particularly in your first game in the NFL,” Lawrence said. “But after that, you’re just playing ball.” “I could tell [comfort] was creeping in.

“I always feel anxious before the first game of every season, so that’s nothing new for me. I was ecstatic. I was eager to go outside. It’s taken a long time for this to happen. It’s been a long-held ambition of mine.”

After a rough first start, Quinnen Williams returned to the Jaguars’ starting lineup against the Titans. Will he retain this spot in Week 4?. Read more about trevor lawrence patriots and let us know what you think.
