As one of the most talented teams in the top half of the NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers are in a good spot. With a new coach in former Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley and potential quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers will be on a roll in 2021. Their record does not match the completeness of the team, except for one glaring flaw, the offensive line.

Enter Northwestern offensive tackle Rashaun Slater.

Much of the NFL’s DL will be dusted off by the big man with the glasses next year. It looks like a 495 pound squat. …. Rashawn Slater is a real puncher on the field and apparently a form man too.

Slater is not only a beast in the gym, but also a true athlete outside of it. When he’s not running 33 times during his pro day, he’s running 4.88 seconds in the 40-meter dash and 7.48 seconds in the three-hole drill.

These athletic qualities are also evident on the field. His ability to go to the second level and block linebackers is as good as it gets. According to PFF, he was a three-year starter in college and consistently ranked at the top of the Power Five Conference in run blocking.

If his combination of strength, athleticism and blocking ability doesn’t convince you, listen to this: Slater played 1,312 snaps as a pass blocker. In those snaps, he only allowed five sacks. Not only is that impressive considering Slater played at both positions, but he also played against some of the best pass rushers in the country every year.

When it comes to Rashon Slater, there’s only one real weakness: his last film. Unfortunately, it has none. Slater has decided to opt out of the 2020 season, leaving experts worried about whether or not he will make it to the end of the NFL season. No one can blame him for thinking about his health first, but he’ll probably finish outside the top 10. And that’s a reality the Los Angeles Chargers will exploit.

Final thoughts

While many fans won’t consider Rashon Slater a sexual choice, he may be one of the safer ones. Slater is considered the second best DEEP forward of the year. A team like the Chargers couldn’t find much consistency last season, so this is an ideal pick. Slater is as consistent as can be and shows talent in all aspects of his game, regardless of competition. We’ll look back in a few years, because this is an absolute bargain for pick 13.
