This year, four characters on the CW’s “Arrow” have been resurrected in flashback scenes: Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Sara’s father, the late Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman). The fourth, however, was a major surprise: the late Barbara Gordon (Caity Lotz), the former Batgirl/Oracle, who has made her living as a vigilante.

Leslie Grace is the young actress who was recently announced as the new live action Barbara Gordon in the upcoming film adaptation of “Detective Comics”. Grace took the internet by storm when she made her first appearance in a comic book in the pages of “Suicide Squad” #13. However, this wasn’t her first time in the spotlight. Grace has previously auditioned for various roles, but was perhaps best known for her role as Violet in the television series “Young Justice”.

The controversial casting of Barbara Gordon as the hero Batgirl has been met with a variety of responses, including praise from fans of the comic book character, and outrage from those who believe the casting is misguided. A social media campaign to bring the episode of “Gotham” in which the casting happens down from the airwaves has been going strong, but Leslie Grace, who plays Barbara Gordon in the series, has broken her silence on the matter.. On Wednesday, the DC Films world got its Batgirl when actress and singer Leslie Grace was hired in the main role of HBO Max’s forthcoming Batgirl film. The announcement comes after years of speculation about who would portray the famous DC Comics heroine, and it seems that fans are overjoyed to see the actress from In The Heights take on the role. Grace confirmed the announcement on Twitter on Wednesday, saying she is “beyond thrilled” to play Barbara, thanking DC for “welcoming [her] to the family,” and assuring fans that she is “ready to give her all [she] has.”

I am OVERJOYED to take on the role of Barbara Gordon, your #Batgirl! I can’t believe I’m writing this… THANK YOU, DC, for including me in your family! I’m prepared to offer her all I’ve got! 🦇💜✨ https://t.co/muq9GuVVk6

The Batgirl film has been in the works since 2017, and production has accelerated in recent months, with Ms. Marvel and Bad Boys For Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah tapped to oversee the next movie. Christina Hodson wrote the Batgirl screenplay, as well as Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and the forthcoming The Flash film.

Barbara Gordon is the young daughter of Commissioner Gordon, who moonlighted as a vigilante while working as the director of the Gotham City Public Library. She was created by William Dozier, Julius Schwartz, Gardner Fox, and Carmine Infantino and first appeared in Detective Comics #359 in 1967. Barbara grew in prominence in the DC world over time, and after being crippled during the events of Batman: The Killing Joke in 1988, she switched to working as the hacker and computer specialist Oracle. Barbara recovered from her paralysis due to surgery in the 2011 New 52 reboot, and has acted as both Batgirl and Oracle in specific situations.

This will be the latest actress to portray Barbara Gordon in live-action, following with Yvonne Craig on the ’60s Batman series, Dina Meyer on the short-lived Birds of Prey series, Jete Laurence on Gotham, and Savannah Welch on Titans. Alicia Silverstone also portrayed a version of the character in Batman & Robin.

Barbara’s recent live-action debut has been a hot subject among fans for many years, particularly since she was left out of the Birds of Prey movie despite being one of the group’s original members. It’s unclear if Dinah Lance/Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett) or Helena Bertinelli/Hunterress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) will appear with this new Batgirl onscreen.

“She’s Batgirl!” exclaims the narrator. In a prior interview, Hodson revealed. “She embodies everything I like about Batman. Humans have always piqued my attention more than otherworldly creatures and monsters. People are capable of great virtue as well as great evil. When you push someone into a corner, the things they do are fantastic, frightening, and beautiful all at the same time, and it brings out our basic instincts – both good and evil. And it intrigues me much.”
