The 2020-21 NBA season is getting closer and closer and the teams are preparing for the 22nd NBA season with the introduction of their new City Edition T-shirt. December. The City Edition t-shirt was first introduced in 2016 and is updated every year, although some teams – such as Jazz – stick to the same design for several seasons.
During the off-season, the Nike and Jordan brands will show their new look throughout the competition as the different franchises renew their uniform line-up.
In addition to the city’s T-shirts, teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors will wear brand new sweaters at the start of the season, while others will wear the new Throwback Edition uniform on certain days.

New Urban Uniform
Los Angeles Lakers
The defending champions do not produce City Edition T-shirts, but call them the fourth edition of the Lore series. Each knitted item in the series paid homage to the Laker legend. After Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson and Shakeill O’Neill, this year Algyn Baylor wore a T-shirt with design elements of what he wore in the early 1960s after the Lakers moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles.

The Brooklyn Networks
The networks pay tribute to the influential artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, born in Brooklyn in 1960 and known worldwide. The sign shows the crown above the NBA logo.

Cleveland Riders
Cleveland’s deep musical roots, including the fact that it houses the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are emphasized in the new look of the Cavs. After the classic C-Team, Mixed Font is a tribute to the logos and graphics of Hall of Fame bands like Metallica, Pink Floyd and Nirvana. Memphis-Grizzly
Grit and Grind will be transformed into Memphis Soul for Grizzlies, as their City Edition uniform will celebrate the life of singer/songwriter Isaac Heiss and the legacy of Stax Records. The mould has a black base with vertical stripes grooved on Stax vinyl records. Gold and turquoise finishes complete the painting inspired by the 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Hayes (on display at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis). Hayes sunglasses and the Stax logo are also part of the design.

Spears: Grizzly to celebrate the legendary Isaac Hayes in a special uniform.

The new Mavs jersey will be dedicated to two anniversaries in the history of the franchise, while the team celebrates its 40th anniversary. The NBA season is celebrated with reference to the first championship ten years ago. The Legacy Is Everything looks like a white uniform with gold and silver piping and the number 40 at the waist.

Utah Jazz
Jazz goes #DarkMode in 2020-21 because the City Edition uniform is an evolution of last year’s gradient red theme. In Utah, a satellite dish is also being built to match the new uniform, highlighted by a painted area in the key that matches the coloured stripes on the uniform.

The Celts of Boston
The Celtics have 17 league banners hanging from the rafters in the TD garden and now have five on the field. The new City Edition team t-shirts are inspired by the design of the Boston championship banner, with the Boston Celtics sign above the number.

The Pistons updated their Motor City and added Detroit, Michigan to the forefront. The logo on the front of the shorts is a tribute to Woodward Avenue, Detroit Main Street.

A look from Denver to 2020-21 is based on the team’s popular iridescent horizon design, which is in a colour the team calls Flatirons Red, inspired by the Colorado landscape.

Oklahoma Thunder.
Thunder pulled the last uniform out of town on Oklahoma State Day, and for good reason: The t-shirt bears the name of the state for the first time and is a tribute to the 46th anniversary of the founding of the state. The colors are inspired by the sunsets in Oklahoma.

The new look has an inverted geometric pattern reminiscent of the Art Deco shapes of urban buildings and a font inspired by the signage of the Unified Centre.

Three teams receive a revision of form
Charlotte Horns
The hornets will wear the new uniforms of the Association and the Icon edition with a double stripe, which they wore from 1997 to 2002.

Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta will wear four unique colours – Infinite Black, Hereditary Yellow, Torch Red and Granite Grey – to honour the falcon’s heritage.
