Macy began his career as an independent performer. He has four Emmy Awards and four Screen Actors Guild Awards to his belt. For his part in Frago, he was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1972, Macy graduated from Goddard. He appeared in a number of David Mamet’s plays, including American Buffalo and The Water Engine. When he was in his twenties, he performed a television commercial and was required to join the AFTR in order to do so.
