REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA) – Every week Rosanna Handrich stands on the sidewalk overlooking her grandmother’s balcony on her apartment complex in Redondo Beach.

This is often the only social interaction that 95-year-old Clara Harkatz now gets because she stays indoors to protect herself from VIDOC.

So she’s the only one in the room, Handrich said. It makes me sad when I think about it alone, because I can’t imagine what it would be like to sit alone all day.

Rosanna took her young children to Clara’s apartment.

I even put all their toys in their apartment so they wouldn’t get bored, she says. I just sat with her for a couple of hours a weekend.

But when COWID was shot, Roseanne and her family decided it was too risky to meet inside.

We’re just very afraid she’s gonna get sick, she says. None of us wants to be the reason anything happens to him.

Roseanne’s been with Clara this way for months – Clara on her balcony, Roseanne on the public sidewalk. They usually met around noon, after Grandma got up and dressed, and before Roseanne’s children went to bed.

Last week Clara got a message from her apartment manager: We have received complaints about excessive noise from your device…. Ask your guest to come and inspect your unit.

The final notice indicates that continuing to violate the rules and regulations that apply to your rental will result in further action, which may include eviction.

Clara – who fled her native Ukraine during the Second World War – lived in the apartment for almost 20 years.

She’s worried because she’s lived there for so long. She doesn’t want to be kicked out, Rosanna said. It’s a communist society, so it fears such a revolution.

At the moment Roseanne is still visiting her grandmother. She’s afraid it will affect her grandmother’s emotional well-being if she doesn’t come back.

You can hear it in her voice when she hasn’t seen anyone for a while, she says. It really hurts me to hear her say she’s lonely.

Sarah Furchtenicht, Executive Vice President of the apartment management company GK Management, has made this statement:

We know how important it is for families to stay in touch with their loved ones, especially in these times of unprecedented COWID. We deplore the tone of the communication sent by our manager to Mrs Harath, which was taken from the standard letter we send to tenants with chronic noise problems. We sent him a notice of termination this morning and we apologize for the misunderstanding.

The notice, which was a response to complaints from other tenants, should have been more sensitive and should have contained a clearer explanation of the decision. Family members are encouraged to continue visiting the grandmother, following the CDC guidelines for wearing a mask and maintaining social distance. Your health and the health of others will be preserved if you follow these recommendations. In this case, we encourage the family to use mobile phones instead of shouting on the sidewalk. ”
