A gunman who shot and killed a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy remained on the loose Friday, authorities said.
The sheriff’s department is a law enforcement agency in the United States. In a shooting incident on Wednesday, a gunman ambushed and shot a sheriff’s deputy.
COLTON, Texas (CBSLA) – After coming under heavy gunfire in an ambush while trying to conduct a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon, a 27-year-old San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officer escaped with just minor injuries.

At 4:14 p.m., a gunshot happened between Waterman Avenue and Olive Street in San Bernardino.

The deputy was attacked after turning a curve in pursuit of a white BMW, according to security footage from the attempted traffic stop. The guy opened fire on the sheriff’s cruiser after firing hundreds of bullets at it.
During a Tuesday evening press conference, San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus remarked, “Our deputy is on the ground.” “They start giving him first aid and put him into a vehicle right away.”

With minor injuries, the deputy, a four-year member of the agency, was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
“On the surface, he has facial injuries,” Dicus remarked. “We have no idea how those face injuries happened. Then there was the shrapnel in his arm.”
Investigators are still trying to figure out what started the fire that burned the officer’s car, but it’s possible that it was the barrage of bullets, the most of which, if not all, missed the deputy. Dicus did not say if the deputy fired back.

“I personally met with the deputy,” Dicus added. “The deputy seems to be in a good mood. He’s talking and lucid, and he’s surrounded by his family.”

The suspect’s car was discovered late Tuesday night at an apartment complex on Date Street, according to San Bernardino police. An residence may be raided by SWAT troops. It’s unknown if anybody was detained. The suspect is still on the loose as of this writing.
The reason for the deputy’s effort to halt the BMW has yet to be revealed, as has the identity of the suspect. The number of individuals in the suspect’s car is unknown.
Fellow cops are just pleased that the deputy made it through what is, for the most part, their greatest fear.
“It’s very traumatic, and it’s not something you expect,” Dicus added. “We have to remember that the people who go out every day and perform this work on our behalf as citizens accept those dangers. And you never know when you’ll be confronted by someone who will use violence against you. Unfortunately, it has happened to our department many times in the past six months.”
The shooting part of the event is being investigated by San Bernardino police since the wounded deputy was performing a traffic stop while crossing within city boundaries.
