Paul Ince feels Manchester United have failed to attract or develop any real heroes and thinks only Bruno Fernandez fits into the current squad.
The Red Devils are having a good season, finishing second in the Premier League, but can only aim for the Europa League if Manchester City take the league title.
The team seems to be slowly but surely improving under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Ince believes they do not have the level of players United have had in the past.
Of course, Manchester United no longer compete for trophies like they did in the era of Sir Alex Ferguson, but Ince believes that even the team’s biggest names can’t match the heroes of the past.
The former United midfielder blames recruitment, but also points to Marcus Rashford as a homegrown player who hasn’t quite lived up to the past.
Too many times in the past we have seen players come and fail. I think when you put that much on players, they have to run like Bruno Fernandez, Ince told Ladbrokes.
Man United have always had teams full of heroes, from Eric Cantona to Ryan Giggs and from Roy Keane to Brian Robson, but if you look at the current team, you could say that Fernandes is the only one with that level of ability at the moment.

The fans love Marcus Rashford, he’s a man from Manchester and I love him too, but if you look at the real heroes of football, Fernandes is the one at the moment.
Man United have always had teams full of heroes, but now it’s just Fernandes. They need to get back to a level where they have the right players, the leaders, all over the field.
Insex believes that smarter hiring and looking for hidden gems in the transfer market are needed to solve this problem.
It’s easier said than done, but Ince believes his former club should put more effort into this area.

This is a difficult request, Ince continued. And that’s no mean feat at a club like Manchester United. Once United show interest in the player, a further £10m will be added to his value.
Man United should do their homework and take the time to study the player for a few years. I understand it’s hard because you’re always afraid someone else will come along.
But if you keep looking for players around the world and do your homework, you will attract the right personalities. Man United can’t afford to keep spending £50m on players who won’t be on the pitch.
