The Buffalo Bills finished the regular season 13-3 and won their first AFC Eastern Crown in 25 years. But the Bills know all this will be for nothing if they can’t beat the Colts in the NFL playoff wild card round.
Quarterback Josh Allen was the catalyst for a historic season in which he spent 4,544 yards and 37 touchdowns. He added eight more touchdowns on the ground and took care of the ball, leaving only ten interceptions.
We don’t want to abandon anyone and we’re here, we have a goal and I think coach [Sean] McDermott is doing a good job of preaching that goal to us when we’re out there, said Allen. We know how much this means for the city of Buffalo and the fans here, but also for the former players who played here. It’s a special place to play soccer, but at the end of the day we’re playing for each other on the field.
The Bills were the second best offense in the championship, just behind the Packers, with 31.3 points per game. The great addition that Buffalo helped was Stephon Diggs, who was traded from Minnesota in the off-season. Diggs leads the competition in receptions with 1,535 yards.
You get a new season, a new chance we won as a team, Diggs said this week. We’ve had our ups and downs this season. It seemed like we were growing and improving all year round, especially with our losses and defeats. We learn a lot from them and grow through them. I feel that we can take advantage of it for the after-season, because we have the opportunity to do something special here and now. And it all starts with trying to win the first chance. The Colts have a great team, one of the most balanced teams in the NFL, just like us. So it’s going to be a challenge for us and we’re looking forward to it.
The Colts had an eventful season, but they made the playoffs with an 11-5 record and won six of their last eight games.
The big story in Indianapolis is that of 39-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers, a potential Hall of Famer on the way who still has a hole in his Super Bowl.
I don’t carry that with me every day, it’s… Man, played 16 years and never had a championship, said Rivers. Hurry up, it’s a fresh start every day, and take advantage of every challenge and opportunity.
The home advantage was largely wiped out this year by the COWID-19 pandemic, but the Bills will have 6,700 loyal players for the playoffs.
